Friendship Pitfall That Will DESTROY Your Business

Friendship is not always best for business. Moving silently can remove you as a friend, and keep it all business; as it should be!
That’s right. Sometimes, your friends would be better off knowing just how well things are going for you (and you would be better off, too)!
I thought I would reach out to you today to ask you a few questions regarding your business activities. These questions will help you determine if your FRIENDS are helping or hurting your business:
- Have you had any deals where having equity in the deal has created a problem maybe because somebody doesn’t want to see you gain because they know you and feel they should get something from you for free?
- Have you ever had an opportunity to make some money on a good business deal or investment and felt that someone may look at you differently for handling your business just because it’s you, and you almost know certainly if it was anybody else profiting they wouldn’t even have a problem paying or moving forward the deal, but as soon as they find out it’s you it a problem!.
- Have you ever been in a relationship and truly love and care for the person you are with and plan to marry them? However, a part of you says, I probably should still protect myself just in case it doesn’t work out; because her mother or father didn’t raise a fool!
If any of these scenarios sound familiar, you are not alone.
You are also thinking of the RIGHT WAY to protect your business from friendships that can destroy it.
You see, hiding your involvement in a business or a property is such a powerful tool. You can literally sit in a room and be the fly on the wall and no one in the room knows that you own that business. All the while, you can push and influence others whether a company or private individual to do business with that very business.
It’s a sad reality that many entrepreneurs face. It’s the old “Well, you are a friend, so I should get a discount on your services;” when at the same time, they would walk into a big corporation and pay the fee without asking. Let’s be real, people don’t usually book a flight and try to haggle the price of the ticket with Delta. The price is what it is. This is the problem that entrepreneurs deal with all the time while looking for support from the people closest to them.
The fact is that if they are a true friend they should support you in business, and support is not asking for a discount or a deal. It means bringing your business to me just as you would the big corporation. Because let’s face the truth, they are in a better financial situation than most people starting their businesses.
It’s things like this that in order to become a better businessman or woman, you have to learn to circumvent, and it’s easy to remove yourself from the equation. Do not be the business owner, and you NO LONGER have to deal with ALL of the problems of being the owner.
I have owned a large rental portfolio and most of the tenants never knew I owned the property. The smart ones who watch Netflix reality shows based on real estate are probably starting to put 2 and 2 together, but most of my tenants DON’T KNOW. It is like being the fly on the wall. I have literally had a tenant (who thought I worked for the company who rented him the apartment he lived in) tell me the story he uses to try to get out of paying rent, and I have had tenants tell me that they were going to sublease their apartment to a friend even after knowing clearly it’s not allowed in their lease agreement. I could only nod my head and laugh on the inside. If they only knew. That won’t be happening, sorry! There are several advantages to not being the boss (at least, not obviously the boss). It’s kind of the concept the TV show “Undercover Boss” depicts when employees are working alongside the CEO and they get to really know how they feel. This is a great position to be in, in many business situations.
Think about it and I’m sure you will find applications that remain secret and can assist you tremendously in your business activities!
Real Bosses move in silence!
